Cutting Board Designer by Raw Heartwood

A free, interactive tool for designing your own wood cutting board. Compose edge-grain and end-grain boards strip by strip from real hardwood species — black walnut, hard maple, cherry, white oak, osage orange, koa, olive, lychee, eucalyptus, narra, and more — and get an accurate materials estimate with kerf and waste already factored in.

How it works

1. Pick a board style: edge-grain strips, end-grain checkerboard, brick, zig-zag, chevron, or DNA patterns.
2. Set the dimensions and choose wood species for each strip or cell — with real grain photography.
3. Read the live cut list: board feet per species, rough strip dimensions, cut counts, and kerf loss, plus a buying guide for shopping random-width lumber.
4. Follow the step-by-step build instructions, print the cut sheet, or send the design to Raw Heartwood for a lumber bundle or a ready-to-glue kit.
